Anderson Pest Solutions, the largest family-owned pest control company in the Midwest, has donated $2,500 towards relief efforts in Haiti through the American Red Cross and is matching Anderson team-member contributions on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to a further $5,000. A major earthquake struck the island nation on January 13, leaving over 150,000 people dead and many more homeless and without food or medical supplies.
According to Mark O'Hara, President of Anderson, "We're just trying to do our part to help the Haitian people in the aftermath of this terrible disaster. We think the American Red Cross is an outstanding organization and we're glad to be able to contribute in this emergency."
More than 430 Red Cross and Red Crescent workers from at least 30 countries are in Haiti supporting thousands of local volunteers. Of them, more than 100 represent the American Red Cross, including a group of Creole interpreters on board the USNS Comfort. The relief operation in Haiti is already the largest single-country personnel deployment in global Red Cross history.

Anderson Pest Solutions, headquartered in Elmhurst, Illinois, has received GreenPro certification from the National Pest Management Association (NPMA). The GreenPro program is the most widely recognized green certification program for pest management professionals in the world, and is the only program of its kind to have received an award from the Environmental Protection Agency.
GreenPro designation verifies to customers that their pest management provider complies with many qualifications designed to ensure they receive eco-effective service. In addition to requiring participating companies to submit independent audits, GreenPro certified companies must have their service technicians, salespersons and managers trained, tested and recertified. GreenPro participating companies are also evaluated on business operations, such as criminal background checks, reference checks, drug screening and more, prior to being allowed to participate in GreenPro.
"We're very proud to have achieved GreenPro certified status," said Mark O'Hara, President of Anderson, and a long-time member of the NPMA's QualityPro board of directors, which helped create the GreenPro program. "Though being certified as a "green" service provider is a popular issue these days, Anderson has actually been practicing the same environmentally responsible procedures required by GreenPro in our service for many years. We had to make very few changes in order to be compliant with the GreenPro standards. The real benefit is that customers now have an independently audited means of determining which pest solutions companies are responsible - and which aren't. There are a lot of pest management companies that say that they're "green" but haven't implemented environmentally responsible practices and don't stress preventative measures and the systems approach required by GreenPro."
The NPMA's GreenPro program recently received the National Pesticide Program Partners Award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The award was given as a part of EPA's Office of Pesticide Program's first-ever Honor Awards Ceremony, which aims to highlight core values and principles of EPA and encourage their widespread practice.

Ever want to get nose-to-nose with a praying mantis? Pet a giant pumpkin millipede as long as your hand? See how far a giant lubber grasshopper can jump? You'll have your chance Tuesday, November 24 at DuPage Children's Museum.
Children will get the opportunity to interact with live insects this Tuesday, November 24, 2009 from 10:00 to noon when Tom Dobrinska and Mark Mayer from Anderson Pest Solutions bring their Insect Zoo to DuPage Children's Museum's Art Studio. This event is free with membership or museum admission.
When people think about pest management companies like Anderson, they tend to think about ants and termites - all the bugs you just want to get out of your house," said Mark O?Hara, President of Anderson. "But our knowledge of the insect world goes far beyond simple household pests. The relationship with the DuPage Children's Museum is a way for us to share some of what we've learned. And, as Tom and Mark will be showing the kids, it's pretty cool stuff."
The Anderson Insect Zoo team will be bringing along some of their unusual insect friends for children to experience up close. "It's great to be able to show the kids some of these really interesting creatures that they wouldn't ordinarily see in this part of the country," said Tom, who added, "Some of the bugs, like the hissing cockroaches or the vinegaroon, may look a little scary at first, but none of them are dangerous."
DuPage Children's Museum helps develop curiosity, creativity, thinking and problem solving in young children via interactive exhibits and programs that make learning fun for children and adults playing together.
The Museum is located at 301 N. Washington Street in Naperville, Illinois, a quick walk from the Naperville Metra train station. Parking is free and the building is wheelchair accessible.
